Tire recycling?

Lately, among the fixed gear riders I know, I've been hearing lots of talk about skidding and wearing out tires - "buy cheap ones and get new ones when they wear out" - has lately made me wonder if there's a smart way to dispose of the old ones (or if all these folks just burn through tires like cigarettes, tossing the old ones into landfills like butts out of a car window).
Has anyone here ever heard of a bicycle tire recycling program?
Thanks,
Alex

Yeah I work in a shop in Chico, Ca., we're a Specialized dealer and they have a program to recycle old tires to make rubber floor mats. I think most Specialized dealers should have a bin, just drop them off. Other than that I've seen a few auto places that recycle old car tires, they might take bike tires as well.
